Still on top of the Vine Valley Athletic League, the Dragons are looking to close out their season in the next two weeks with a dominant finish over American Canyon.

Led by their relay squads, the girls squad should come out with their sixth win of the regular season and the VVAL title. They’ve been comfortable winners in every single one of their regular season matchups thus far, led by a seasoned senior corps and complemented by a strong group of juniors and sophomores.

Though they won’t be competing for any team accolades, the boys’ duo of Greyson McCaw and Tully Meyer will try to keep building on their success from earlier in the season to continue their seasons into NCS.

Softball at Petaluma, 4 p.m.

Though the Dragons were trounced by Benicia over the weekend, they are still looking good in their recent games. They’ve won three of their past four and are going into the week with a good rest until the middle of the week.

With that rest, Sonoma Valley’s pitching staff will be looking to turn things around as they get into the home stretch of the VVAL circuit; the team will have three straight games this week from Tuesday to Friday, then finish out the last two weeks of the season with five more league matchups.

Led by the duo of Kassedy Midgely and Natalie Broderick, the pitching staff is pretty bare bones relative to other staffs in the league, but it has survived thus far and shouldn’t change drastically as the season concludes.

The Dragons also have four hitters hitting above .300; Midgely and Broderick, as well as sophomore Kayla Amormino and Victoria Magnani. The four sophomores have been strong all throughout this season, and their success will be the determining factor in how the team finishes out.

Girls Lacrosse vs. Sonoma Academy, 7 p.m.

Despite falling to Justin Siena last Thursday 14-3, Sonoma Valley showed how much it has progressed since the beginning of the season.

Goalie Tiana Harris snagged 16 saves and three ground balls against the best team in the VVAL, and the Braves struggled to best the Dragons’ defensive intensity.

“You see the confidence building on defense, the communication,” Dragons’ coach Lou Biaggi said. “We are where we wanted to be by the end of the season.”

The Braves scored their first five goals of the game on penalty shots, but beyond their success there they struggled to crack the Dragons’ defensive line. At one point, the Braves went six entire minutes in a possession without scoring.

“It was amazing to watch,” Biaggi said.

Going into their final game of the season against Sonoma Academy, Sonoma Valley is looking to end on a high note and show how much they have grown since the start of the season regardless of a win or a loss.

Track and Field, Viking Track Classic at Montgomery, 7 a.m.

Sonoma Valley track and field will have its work cut out for it this weekend as it takes on nearly 50 teams from around the North Bay in the Viking Track Classic.

The competition will be stiff throughout, but there will be opportunities for the young Dragons mile runners Adam Tovar and Siena Hoban to shine after dominating in the mile against their opponents.

Lucky for the Dragons’ small roster, the size of the meet will give its athletes more time to rest in between events and potentially participate in more events than in their VVAL meets. Senior Siena Hoban, who has competed in several events every meet, would have the opportunity to take on even more than normal.

Sonoma Valley will be one of the smallest teams at the meet, but there will be plenty of opportunities for its athletes to shine.

Baseball vs. Albany, 7 p.m.
