St. Francis 5th-grade boys go?unbeaten, win CYO hoops title

Six other Valley teams reached ?CYO playoffs|

Last year, Sonoma’s St. Francis Solano CYO basketball program’s fourth-grade boys claimed the Division-1 crown after posting a 9-1 regular-season first-place record, and a year later the same group of boys and coaches have taken it a step further while repeating as champions.

Dominating the opposition from the start of the 2015 regular season, the St. Francis fifth-grade boys ran the Division-1 table, going undefeated through the playoffs, including a 37-30 victory over St. Eugene’s in the final to finish with a 12-0 overall mark and winners of the CYO title.

Comprising the CYO Division-1 champion St. Francis fifth-grade boys’ hoops team – directed by head coach Marco Girish and assistant coaches Mike Sangiacomo and Nickolai Mathison – are Rollo Benstead, Luc DeMartini, Adam Duffield, Dom Girish, Anders Mathison, Tyler Oda, Gavin Rognlien, Robby Sangiacomo and Bennet Steiger.

Six other St. Francis CYO teams also turned in solid seasons en route to making the playoffs, where they finished in third place.

The St. Francis eighth-grade Division-1 boys – coached by Justin Garrett and Barney Lehane – consisted of Justin Cox, Marco Della Santina, Trent Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Brendan Hogan, Gavin Lehane, Will Natuzzi, Riley Phelan, Nicolas Spanger and George Stewart.

Comprising the St. Francis eighth-grade Division-3 boys – coached by Brian Cooper and Walt Williams – were Brian Boldt, Maxx Castellucci, Johnathan Diaz, James Greenslade, Sean Herrick, Logan Mak, Matthew Norrbom, Angel Tapia, Tuck Williams and Max Winslow.

The St. Francis seventh-grade Division-2 boys – coached by Charlie DeTorres and Dave Johnson – consisted of Brady Armitage, Sam Balchinas, Rishi Clark, Joe Costanzo, Nolan Dunkle, Noah Fruge, Reed Hewitt, Zach Johnson, Luke Sendaydiego and Anthony Tommasi.

Comprising the St. Francis seventh-grade Division-3 boys – coached by Kevin Jaggie and Les Thompson – were Ricardo Cab, Bruno Cess, Dom Fiorito, Eli Fucile, Nolan Jaggie, Nate Jordan, Elijah Lakritz, Mason Matulaitis, Andrew McKale and Nate Simonson.

The St. Francis fourth-grade Division-2 girls – coached by Ken Juhasz, Dylan James and Boris Medak – consisted of Carlie Fiorito, Jojo Grippi, Olivia Harb, Kerry James, Kathryn Juhasz, Audrey King, Julia Lage, Sophie Rulmont, Matea Medak, Gabriella Sebastiani and Francesca Zanin.

Comprising the St. Francis fourth-grade Division-2 boys – coached by Ray Sullivan and John Blanchard – were Owen Barry, Andrew Bonfigli, Grant Boydell, Sam Cutting, David Larsen, Max Retterer, Luc Rulmont, Will Schuler, Kelly Sullivan and Jaden Vides.
