Lacrosse Girls vs. Sonoma Academy, 5 p.m.

Following their victory over Windsor, Sonoma Valley (2-6, 0-4 VVAL) will play its second league match against Sonoma Academy (4-4, 1-2) hoping to obtain its first league victory of the season.

The Dragons have shown improvement as the polish of in-game experience begins to smooth out their defensive intensity and hustle. Led by their intense hustle for ground balls, the young squad will have to rely on their defensive fight to limit the Coyotes’ possessions.

Sonoma Academy did claim a league win over Napa, as well as two wins against Windsor, but has also lost badly to Justin Siena and Vintage. Though Sonoma Valley didn’t fare much better against those teams, it should be a close-fought battle between the two teams.

Other games:

Track and Field vs. Casa Grande w/ Napa, 3 p.m.

Boys Tennis vs. American Canyon, 3 p.m.

Boys Golf vs. Vintage, 3:30 p.m.

Boys tennis at Justin-Siena, 2 p.m.

Following their home meet against American Canyon, the boys tennis team will be traveling to Justin Siena. Though the team has had its struggles, losing 6-1 to Napa and Vintage last week, it can hopefully turn things around by their matchup against the Braves.

Though the team has struggled to equate progress on the court with progress in the win-loss column, there are still small individual victories that the team has taken. Dragons’ Mikey Serbicki helped to hand the Crushers their first match loss of the season, winning a third-set tiebreaker 12-10.

Other games:

Swim and Dive vs. Petaluma, 4 p.m.

Varsity Baseball vs. Petaluma, 4 p.m.

Junior Varsity Baseball vs. Petaluma, 4 p.m.

Thursday, April 8

Softball vs. Petaluma, 4 p.m. (Junior Varsity and Varsity)

Following a bounce back win against Archie Williams, Sonoma Valley (3-7, 0-3) will start its first week of games with a league matchup against Petaluma (6-2, 2-0).

The Dragons’ pitching has struggled so far, allowing 10+ runs in seven of their 10 games. The primary factor for winning for the Dragons this season has been their offense, and the Trojans have done a good job of limiting runs this season.

The Trojans have been a strong offensive team all season, hitting .327 while slugging a formidable .531. They are led by senior Mallory O’Keefe, who is hitting .615 with seven doubles, three triples and 10 RBI.

The Dragons’ offense is led by sophomores Victoria Magnani (.276 AVG, 11 RBI) and Natalie Broderick (.310 AVG, eight runs), but is weaker than the Trojans. Sonoma Valley hits .229 as a team while slugging just .324.

Sonoma Valley will have to score early and prevent the Trojans from getting the big inning if they want any chance of winning, and the pitching staff will have to rely on its six rest days to recuperate for the matchup.

Friday, April 9

Baseball at Napa, 4 p.m.

Following a league match-up against Petaluma, the Dragons will look to continue their winning ways in Napa as they travel to face off against the Grizzlies.

It should end up being a strong pitching duel between the two teams, as Sonoma Valley will have to depend on its pitching to withstand a potent Napa offense. The Grizzlies are hitting .310 on the season and averaging over six runs a game, led by seniors Conner Ross (.489 AVG, 18 RBI) and Dylan Snider (.372 AVG, 13 RBI).

Despite the heartbreaker against the Prospectors, the Dragons have built up a lot of momentum recently and are looking to continue their hot streak through this week.

Other games:

Boys Lacrosse vs. St. Vincent, 7 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse vs. Petaluma, 7 p.m.
