Lacrosse: Sonoma Valley High School will be adding both boys and girls lacrosse programs for the Spring 2022 season. Six of the seven VVAL schools will now have the sport. Anyone interested in applying for either of the varsity head coach positions should contact Ann Marie Paparelli (apaparelli@sonomaschools.org) or Mike Boles (svhsathletics@sonomaschools.org).

Halloween tennis: Sonoma Valley Tennis Association will hold a Halloween Costume mixed doubles tennis mixer on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Maxwell Tennis Courts. Food and drink including a Halloween Signature Cocktail available, with prizes for best costume as well as best female and male player. Fee: $30 members, $35 non-members. Winter sports: Sonoma Valley student-athletes have begun conditioning for the winter sports program, including girls and boys basketball, girls and boys soccer, and wrestling. Girls basketball season begins Nov. 10 at Redwood, the boys season starts Nov. 13 at Healdsburg. Girls soccer begins Nov. 11 against Santa Rosa at home (boys soccer not yet posted), and wrestling begins Dec. 4.

Junior Basketball: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley has opened registration for their Junior Basketball League for boys and girls in K–third grade. The league is designed to foster teamwork, good sportsmanship, and healthy recreational habits. The fall 2021 season begins Nov. 15, and runs through January 2022. Club sports have a fee of $150 per player, plus an annual membership fee of $25. Scholarships are available, and no child is turned away due to an inability to pay.

Community support is needed to help ensure the success of these leagues. Opportunities include team and league sponsorships, volunteer coaches and referees. Learn more at bgcsonoma.org/athletics.

Attending school games: In an effort to limit person-to-person contact and shorten wait times, Sonoma Valley High School Athletics will continue to use a digital-only ticketing solution for all home athletic events. To purchase tickets, go to gofan.co/app/school/CA23061. Digital tickets are sent to email electronically after purchase or can be accessed through the GoFan mobile app. Tickets will be redeemed directly from phones upon entry into an event.

NASCAR: The Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race will return to Sonoma Raceway on June 12, 2022. The date is one week later than this past June’s event and will be the second of six road-course events on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 will span 90 laps on the full 2.52-mile, 12-turn road course. For more information, visit SonomaRaceway.com or call 800-870-RACE (7223).

NASCAR Trucks: The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will make its return to Wine Country for the first time in 24 years when it returns as a companion event to the NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday, June 11. The truck race will run as a doubleheader with the General Tire 150 ARCA Menards Series race the same day.
