The Sonoma Valley High girls swim team won their first meet of the season against Casa Grande with a whopping 109-47 on Wednesday in their first league matchup.

Sonoma Valley had 10 event wins in their trip to victory, all from across the board.

Remy Harrison helped the team to four of those wins, pacing the meet in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.15) and 200 freestyle (2:08.98) and helping her team to wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Glorianna Ring and Sierra Pine were essential parts to those relay-winning teams. Ring would also add two wins in the 200 individual medley (2:22.65) and the 100 fly (1:04.14), with Pine adding a win in the 50 and 100 freestyle (25.77/57.67).

The other wins came courtesy of Alegira Silvi (500, 6:03.08) and Erin Nicholson (100 backstroke, 1:13.42).

Despite not claiming any victories, Audrey Powers, Kate Llodra and Genevieve Smith each combined for several second and third place finishes behind their teammates, further separating the Dragons from the Gauchos in the scoring.

There were also some new faces among the flurry of placements from the Dragons, competing in their first meet and a welcome sight for the future of the program.

The boys, who only have two swimmers in the program, the focus was certainly on the individual performance rather than as a team. Losing to Casa Grande 101-18, the team had two event wins and a personal record.

Perennial talent Greyson McCaw, in his final season as a Dragon, won the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.52 and the 100 backstroke with a 1:01.85. Junior Tully Meyer tied his personal record from last season in the 50 free with a time of 38.55.

The Dragons have spring break next week, but will be working hard before their next dual meet on the 23rd against Justin-Siena.

After a week off for spring break, the Dragons will return to their Vine Valley meets with a dual meet against Justin-Siena on Wednesday, March 23.
