Meyn perfect against Elsie Allen

Junior leads Dragons' SCL-opening 5-frame, 10-run rule rout, host Petaluma Friday|

With junior right-handed ace Maclean Meyn delivering a masterful mound performance supported by a productive offense, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity baseball boys got their Sonoma County League season off to a noteworthy start in front of an appreciating crowd Friday night at Arnold Field.

In total command from the first to the last pitch he threw, Meyn mesmerized the Elsie Allen batters with precision and power that resulted in a no-hit, perfect game effort over five innings as the Dragons scored early and often enough for a 10-run rule, 10-0 SCL-opening victory.

Pitching to perfection, Meyn faced the minimum 15 batters over the five frames and, in impressive fashion, struck out 10 of the visiting Lobos. Also making noise with his bat from the left side, he singled twice and had two RBIs.

Also leading the Dragons were sophomore Carson Snyder’s double, single, three runs scored and two RBIs; sophomore Shane O’Malley’s double, two RBIs and run; senior CJ Vitale’s single, two runs and twice hit by a pitch; sophomore Ethan Vitale’s single and two runs; senior Kyle Garcia’s single and RBI; junior Max Yankovich’s single; and senior Kyle Dunevent and junior Tyler Ramsey’s one run each.

Rounding out the Sonoma varsity baseball team’s roster – directed by head coach Don Lyons and assistant coaches Mario Aliota, Brian Alden, Nate Rowland and Jon Koepp – are seniors Seth August, Thomas Crumly, Abel Fragoza and Jack Hart; and juniors Noah Cess, Will Lennon, Spencer McNairy, Maclean Meyn and Joe Peterson.

The Dragons face defending champion Analy today in Sebastopol, before hosting longtime SCL rival Petaluma at 7 p.m. Friday night, April 10, at Arnold Field.
