The Sonoma Valley Dragons varsity volleyball team gets a new lease on life this week as the begin a postseason run with a game in Sebastopol, against West County High - the school blended just this year, composed of former Analy and El Molino high schools.

The team is seeded tenth in the 16-team North California Section (NCS) Division 3 bracket, West County is seventh. The first seed is Branson (Ross), 22-4 overall, 6-2 in the Marin County league where they finished third.

Other Division 3 teams in the playoffs include Terra Linda, Acalanes, Miramonte and Rancho Cotate, four other teams that Sonoma Valley played this season.

When West County and Sonoma Valley met earlier this year, on Aug. 26, the Sebastopol-based team won in three straight sets.

Tuesday’s first-round game finds Coach Brian Perkins pulling up at least two junior varsity players to augment the injury-plagued Dragons lineup. Lola Martin will remain on the bench, recovering from a recent knee injury.

The playoff’s second round is Saturday, Oct. 30; the semifinal round is Nov. 3, with the finals scheduled for Nov. 6. The complete playoffs schedule can be found on the Max Preps website.

The game will be played at the former Analy High gym at 462 Johnson St., Sebastopol, at 7 p.m.
