Letters to the Editor, March 9: You call that a ‘school day’?

Readers weigh in on the return to campus, love of country and the Newsom recall|

Brief ol’ golden-rule days…

EDITOR: Seriously? A return to campus instruction from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. (“School District Lays Out Timeline for Return to Campus,” Feb. 26)? As a former working parent, I can’t imagine it is worth the time off work or the gas to get your child to school.

I suspect many of the neediest children do not have transportation for a bit more than two hours of instruction. I would be interested in the demographics of the families who chose not to have their children return to school.

Means to an end

EDITOR: Below is “A Letter to a German Friend” published by Albert Camus in 1943 occupied Paris in an underground resistance newsletter. It seems appropriate now.

“You said to me: ‘The greatness of my country is beyond price. Anything is good that contributes to its greatness. And in a world where everything has lost its meaning, those who, like us young Germans, are lucky to find a meaning in the destiny of our nation must sacrifice everything else.’ I loved you then, but at that point we diverged. ‘No,’ I told you, ‘I cannot believe that everything must be subordinated to a single end. There are means that cannot be excused. And I should like to be able to love my country and still love justice. I don’t want just any greatness for it, particularly a greatness born of blood and falsehood. I want to keep it alive by keeping justice alive.’ You retorted: ‘Well, you don’t love your country.’”

Newsom recall is about mismanagement

EDITOR: Are you kidding Myron London? Do you really believe that Newsom is being recalled simply for eating at a restaurant (“Recall Newsom for Eating at a Restaurant?” Feb. 26)?!

Newsom is being recalled because he’s incompetent and a crook. Look around you. Take a drive to San Francisco or visit Los Angeles lately? Newsom has done nothing for the filth in these cities alone. He has allowed illegal immigration to infiltrate California like never before. He’s allowed sanctuary cities. He’s done nothing on crime. Zero. It’s coming to Sonoma fast. Stay tuned. High gas prices. High taxes. High cost of housing. Unemployment scams, with payments going to the wrong people. Lockdowns. He’s killing the middle class. Wealth inequality is rampant in California. Shop owners, restaurant owners, fitness facility owners, performing artists, musicians, etc., have signed the petition to get Newsom out, are all of these people Republicans only? These are folks just trying to make a living and Newsom has shut them down.

Have you heard of Chamath Palihapitiya? He’s a Democrat and far from Republican, who has made major contributions to the Democratic Party and wants to see Newsom gone. This is not about Republicans this is about California’s mismanagement with Newsom at the helm. He’s a total hypocrite and simply apologizing for eating at a restaurant is not enough, not when you’re in political office. If everyone thought about him like you, he would not have 1.5 million petitions signed and more to come. As a California native, I’ve never seen it this bad. But after years of Democratic rule, this is what we are stuck with. Like it or not. Now that’s chutzpah for you.
