Four Sonoma Valley firefighters were recognized for their New Year’s Eve life-saving efforts at the Sonoma County Paramedics Association’s annual Survivor’s Reunion, which took place last month at Benziger Winery.
Last Dec. 31, Justin Semenero, Jason Stayton, Jon Morgan and Michael Pierson responded to a call in which a 30-year-old woman, Stephanie Fajardo, had gone into cardiac arrest. “Our crews revived the patient, and then transported her to the staff at Memorial Hospital and she has made a full recovery,” Sonoma Fire Chief Steve Akre said proudly.
“The rescuers being honored are truly heroes,” read the event program. “Without their unique training and abilities, our survivors most likely would not be here today.”
And if that’s not “glass full” enough, Stephanie is mom to a brand-spanking new baby. In other words, thanks for being there, guys.
Is Sonoma producing polite children – or roving gangs of bike-riding hooligans? That was the question of the day this week on a neighborhood social media site, in which residents discussed the identity of a group of a half dozen bike-riding boys who have allegedly been “intentionally blocking traffic, not looking and just bolting out into the street as if they ‘own it.’” Images taken by one concerned resident depict six kids, about age 13, riding through a downtown intersection. “Cussing people out” at the Maxwell Skate Park is part of their MO, say neighbors. Matt from the Springs reports having seen the miscreants “almost knocking down old ladies” in Rite-Aid one evening. “They’re punks and their parents probably are, too,” observed Matt. At least a dozen neighbors reported various misdeeds by the two-wheeled, banana-seat hoodlums. Ron from Mountain Avenue, however, had a different perspective:
“Time to pick up the booze and drugs kids – because your pesky biking is too much for the Sonoma community to handle,” advised Ron. “Let the kids ride!”
