Woman hospitalized after head-on collision near Napa Road

Mid-afternoon head-on collision causes major injuries to driver suspected of DUI.|

California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision on Highway 121 near Sonoma on Saturday afternoon, a crash that sent a woman to the hospital where she faced treatment for major injuries and charges of driving under the influence.

The accident, reported shortly before 4 p.m., took place on the highway linking the Sonoma Valley with Napa County, south of the Napa Road intersection. The CHP investigation reported that the unidentified woman was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla southbound at “an unknown speed,” She apparently drove off the edge of the road and over-corrected back into the roadway, where she crossed the double-yellow lines and struck a 2019 Ford E350 van head on.

The driver of the van was identified as Pedro Garcia, 36, of Fairfield. He was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. Weather was not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

The driver of the Corolla, who has not been identified, was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa with major injuries. Prior to her release to the hospital she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
