Watmaugh Road opens back to 2 lanes

Bridge repairs have been completed and the one lane road closure has been removed.|

Reduced to one lane since December, Watmaugh Road reopened in all directions on Thursday.

The county spent months replacing a bridge under the roadway, which was failing due to scour from Fowler Creek. The one-way stop sign was known to back up cars in both directions during peak traffic times.

Next up, the county will replace the historic Watmaugh Bridge, which has a safety rating of 31 out of 100. The long-anticipated replacement project is slated to start in 2024 ot 2025.
