Sonoma Valley students invited to free carpentry course

Local students are invited to participate in a free six-week course in Santa Rosa to learn advanced carpentry skills starting this week.

The course, “Essential Carpentry Skills,” will build on skills and knowledge students learned in an introductory construction course — known as ADLTED 744 at Santa Rosa Junior College or Construction Level 1 courses through SCOE. It will also be available to students and others who are already working in construction and who want to improve their carpentry skills. Attendees do not need to be students to participate.

It will consist of 12 classes, offered at Amarosa, Academy, 3261 Dutton Ave. in Santa Rosa, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 14 to Oct. 20 at 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on two Saturdays—Sept. 17 and Oct. 1—from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Originally, the course was to be offered at Sonoma Valley High School as well, but plans were canceled.

Classes will be taught in English, with Spanish translation. Participants must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination before attending a class.

The program is a partnership between Sonoma County Adult Education, Santa Rosa Junior College, Sonoma County Office of Education and Petaluma Adult School.
