Sonoma Valley school district names Kyra Sherman to new post

Sherman has worked for the district since 2006|

Sonoma Valley Unified School District last month promoted Kyra Sherman to executive assistant supporting Superintendent Socorro Shiels.

Sherman replaces Marcus Silvi who retired at the end of the school year.

Only one other person, Lynnea Gordon in the payroll department, has been with the district longer than Sherman, who has been with the district since 2006 in various roles. Her longest stretch was her most recently held position as administrative assistant in the human resources department.

“She is an incredible gift and we are so lucky she is serving the district and community in this position,” Shiels said. “She brings so many assets to the position -- knowledge, positivity, intelligence and perseverance. I am thrilled about the district office team we have in place.”

Sherman is a hometown gal. She attended Flowery Elementary School, Altimira Middle School and graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1999.

She went to CSU Chico State and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies and received a teaching credential from Cal State TEACH.

She is married to a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Detective and has a son entering Sonoma Valley High School and another son who attends Flowery Elementary School.

Sherman said she is “looking forward to working closely with the superintendent and being the liaison between the superintendent/district and the greater Sonoma community.”

Former school board trustee Nicole Abaté Ducarroz praised Sherman. “She is one of the most competent, kind, helpful, intelligent, can-do human beings I know,” Ducarroz said. “This will be a huge boon for everyone.”
