Sonoma Valley ‘big winner’ of Monday’s rain

Sonoma Valley is expected to see 0.5 to 0.75 inches of rain Monday, part of two cold fronts that will drop temperatures through the rest of the week, according to the Bay Area National Weather Service.

“Unlike what we saw last week, this is more of a typical cold front that’s just moving through quickly,” Brooke Bingaman, a meteorologist at the Bay Area National Weather Service.

The coastal mountains will see more rain as typical with 1.5—2 inches of rain, Sonoma Valley, on the other hand, is the “big winner” for lower elevation areas, Bingaman said.

While temperatures are expected to drop this week, it won’t be low enough for “frost situations,” Bingaman said. But the second cold front after Wednesday could bring temperatures to the low to mid-40s.

Unlike the effect of the “atmospheric river” from last week, this rain will likely not cause flooding. But it could cause “mini slides” of earth and mud, Bingaman said, that may affect the sides of roadways.
