Ballet Folklórico Quetzalén and La Luz Center are joining forces to stage “Sentimiento Mexicano,” a dance production highlighting culture and the 2020 census.

The concert will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 9 p.m., at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. W.

“Sentimiento Mexicano” will take the audience on a colorful journey through familiar regions of Mexico. The concert will present 65 dancers, all local residents including Sonoma Valley students in kindergarten through 12 grades.

This show will feature guest dancers Ballet Folklórico “Viva Mi Tierra” from San Jose and Ballet Folklorico de Vacaville.

“We are really pleased to invite the entire community to experience the spirit of Mexican folkloric art dance,” said Quetzalén’s board member and dance instructor Victor Ferrer in a press release announcing the event. “The performance will be full of color, authentic costuming, intricate choreography, lively toe-tapping and captivating music.”

The matinee concert starts at 1 p.m. and the gala concert at 7 p.m. Doors to the concert hall, art sale and concessions will open an hour before each concert.

All proceeds will go toward Quetzalén’s after-school programs, student scholarships, class materials and new costumes for students.

Tickets are available online at smbf.eventbrite.com and also at El Verano Elementary (room 34) every Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
