Extraordinary Sonoma volunteers were honored by their nonprofits on Sunday with trophies and certificates, along with recognition from local politicians.

The Sonoma County Catalyst Fund hosted 37 charitable organizations for this year’s annual Sonoma Valley Star Volunteer awards at the Hanna Center on Oct. 9.

The organizations honored a total of 39 volunteers, each selected by the organization they serve, in the presence of their families for going above and beyond in the name of others this year. Congressman Mike Thompson and First District Supervisor Susan Gorin presented the recognized volunteers with their awards.

The event, which was founded in 2008 by the Community Foundation Sonoma County’s Sonoma Valley Fund, highlights the diligent work of the city’s nonprofit community. The Sonoma Valley fund merged with the Sonoma Valley Catalyst Fund in April of this year, and the annual celebration are now hosted through the partnership.

The ceremony was co-sponsored by Community Foundation Sonoma County and the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley. Local nonprofits and businesses also contributed donations to fund the event.

“The Star Volunteer Awards have been a tremendous celebration of the dedication, courage and enthusiasm that volunteers bring to our community,” Caitlin Childs, director of communications for Community Foundation Sonoma County, said in a press release.

The event was recorded and live-streamed by SonomaTV and can be viewed on the station’s YouTube channel.
