Sonoma schools hire special ed staffer

Stark joins the district from Cotati Rohnert Park Unified.|

Sonoma Valley Unified School District has hired Lori Stark as its next coordinator of special education.

Stark has been involved with disability and special education services since 1990, with such organizations as Becoming Independent, Easter Seals, North Bay Regional Center and with school districts throughout Northern California.

According to SVUSD HR Director Jonathan Ferrer, Stark is experienced in the IEP (individualized education program) process, supporting students and families with appropriate services across the special education continuum.

Stark told the district that her “personal vision is to provide a range of flexible options, both in and out of the district, to meet all students’ needs.” Her initial plans are to meet with special education students and families and orientate herself with the district community to gain an understanding of the unique needs and concerns of individual families.

Stark worked as a “special day class” teacher for 10 years, she developed mental health resources for students that supported their social-emotional well-being at school, and has also developed a resource list for families while serving as a program specialist for Cotati Rohnert Park Unified School District.

Stark speaks conversational Spanish.

Her start date was last Wednesday, Aug. 1.
