Sonoma school district names ed services director

Sonoma Valley Unified School District promoted its education services coordinator to focus on the effects of learning due to the pandemic and remote education, the district announced last week.

With the expansion of responsibilities, Irene Preciado gained the title of director of education services. In addition to coordinating the district’s plans for distance learning as state mandates and guidelines change, she will develop plans to address the learning losses some students have experienced during the shutdown.

That may include summer school or other avenues of learning for the remainder of this school year, and as necessary into the future. Preciado will coordinate logistics such as transportation and site safety for in-person classes as well as communications with all stakeholders.

She joined the district the summer of 2019 charged with the focus of assessing English language learners. Preciado, who is bilingual in Spanish and English, is in the process of completing her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University and is a graduate of California State University Los Angeles, and California State University San Bernardino.
