Sonoma Police: Homeless man refuses to leave business

Catalytic converter thefts continue, identity theft and more .|

A homeless man who was looking for a warm place to sleep for the evening was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 10. A Sonoma deputy was sent to a business in the 500 block of Second Street West for a report of a transient who was refusing to leave. The 31-year-old Sonoma resident was asked to move along, but he refused. The deputy listened to the man and gave him some suggestions where he could find a warm place to crash. The deputy then returned to his patrol car – with the suspect right behind. The suspect then climbed onto the hood of the patrol car and assumed a fetal position. The man was apparently under the influence of drugs and after the deputy arrested him on those charges.

Wednesday, Jan. 27:

7:19 p.m. – A resident in the 900 block of Arguello Court reported that he saw an individual trying to get into the passenger’s side of his vehicle. The victim confronted the suspect who then threw a small rock hitting the victim in the chest before fleeing. The suspect apparently scratched all the windows on the car. There’s no suspect information and the matter is still under investigation.

Thursday, Jan. 28:

10:26 a.m. – A local bank reported fraudulent wire transfers from the branch. Apparently, a former account holder had opened multiple accounts that came to the attention of the bank’s fraud investigator. The matter is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Saturday, Jan. 30:

5:31 p.m. – A resident in the 600 block of Charles Van Damme Way reported that sometime after Jan. 28, someone stole the catalytic converter from his 2007 Toyota Prius that was parked in his driveway.

Tuesday, Feb. 2:

1:07 p.m. – Sometime after 4 p.m. on Feb. 1, and 11 a.m. on Feb. 2, an unknown person broke a sliding window with a rock at the Haven homeless shelter on First Street West. The damage was estimated at $400. There is no suspect information.

Wednesday, Feb. 3:

11:08 a.m. – A resident in the 9000 block of Frederica Avenue in Kenwood reported an identity theft.

Thursday, Feb. 4:

8:51 a.m. – A resident in the 8000 block of Lomita Avenue reported that a catalytic converter from his Ford truck had been stolen. There is no suspect information.

12:24 p.m. – A resident in the 500 block of Ivy Court reported that sometime overnight, somebody cut the catalytic converter from his Honda CRV that was parked in the street. There’s no suspect information.

Friday, Feb. 5:

9:52 a.m. – A resident in the 900 block of Oak Street reported that the catalytic converter from his Ford truck had been stolen. There is no suspect information.

10:48 a.m. – A Sonoma woman ended up in jail on charges of felony cruelty to a child after an incident with her 13-year-old daughter. The pair had been arguing when the argument apparently turned physical and the mother reportedly tore some hair from the teen’s scalp. During the booking, the officers asked the 48-year-old woman if she had anything illegal on her and warned that if anything illegal was found at the jail, she would face additional felony charge. She admitted she had some methamphetamine and a pipe on her person. In addition to being charged with felony cruelty to a child with possible injury or death, she was also arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation.

Saturday, Feb. 6:

4:02 p.m. – Three vehicles were broken into in a parking lot in the 28000 block of Arnold Drive. Among the items taken were a purse, a backpack and electronic equipment. There is no suspect information.

Sunday, Feb. 7:

12:55 p.m. – A thief – or thieves – cut the catalytic converters from two commercial trucks in the 22000 block of Broadway. The estimate to replace the stolen converters is $6,000. There’s no suspect information.

Tuesday, Feb. 9:

8:18 a.m. – A deputy was dispatched to the 12000 block of Jerri Drive in Glen Ellen for a theft report. A Gray Cannondale bike valued at more than $400 was stolen out of a shed. The incident is under investigation.

Wednesday, Feb. 10:

7:51 a.m. – Sometime overnight, an unknown person stole $2,000 worth of checks out of a unlocked car in the 1000 block of Solano Avenue. The property was found in the possession of the three females who were arrested for breaking into an Airbnb on Sperring Road that same morning.

9:02 a.m. – Sometime overnight items were taken out of an unlocked car in the 19000 block of Orange Avenue. The missing property was found when the three females in the above incident on Sperring Road were arrested.

Thursday, Feb. 11:

11 a.m. – An unknown person broke five windows out of a car in the 18000 block of Riverside Drive. The damage was valued at $6,000. There is no suspect information.

Saturday, Feb. 13:

7:54 a.m. – A person in the 14000 block of Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

5:42 p.m. – Officers were sent to a business in the 800 block of Broadway for a grand theft in progress. When they arrived, the found that an employee had seen an individual sawing the catalytic converter from a Ford van in the parking lot – in broad daylight. They confronted the thief who fled. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s property crimes division.
