Recent college grad? Senator Dodd needs fellows

The deadline to apply is Feb. 6|

Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, is accepting applications for the next California Senate Fellows, an 11-month, job-training program for college graduates. The deadline to apply for the fall class is Feb. 6.

“Being a fellow gives you a front-row seat on the biggest stage in California government,” Dodd said in a news release. “It is an excellent opportunity to learn what we do in the capitol while kick-starting a rewarding career in public service. Many fellows have gone on to leadership roles in the legislature, Congress, the judiciary and other elected positions. It is truly a great place to start.”

A total of 18 fellows will be picked in May to begin work in October. “They will be placed on a state senator’s personal or committee staff and participate in a broad range of activities including policy research, constituent casework, drafting speeches and writing press releases. Fellowships are preceded by a five-week orientation providing background on state government, the legislative process and major policy issues,” according to the release.

The program includes a stipend of $3,253 per month, along with health, dental and vision benefits. Jointly operated by the Senate and the Center for California Studies at Sacramento State University, fellows will also receive six units of graduate credits.

Applicants must be at least 20 years old and be a graduate of a four-year college or university by Sept. 1. No specific major is required. People with advanced degrees and mid-career candidates are encouraged to apply.

Dodd represents California’s 3rd Senate District, which includes all or portions of Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Yolo, Sacramento, and Contra Costa counties.
