Wire animals uncaged at Arts Guild

Sculptor Loran May presents ‘magical and ethereal’ creatures|

If you’re familiar with the term “bird on a wire,” well you’re in for an exhibit at the Arts Guild of Sonoma.

Throughout July, the guild is showcasing the sculptures of Loran May, described by the Guild as “lovingly crafted wire birds and animals infused with energy and realism, and focused on natural and mythological themes - real and imaginary creatures with fur, feathers, scales and claws. Truly magical and ethereal.”

May, according to the Guild, experiences her passion first-hand through her travels to observe wildlife in natural habitats, including such places as South Africa, Patagonia and Egypt. (Her next trip scheduled is to China.) May will be in attendance at the upcoming Opening Reception for the exhibit on Friday July 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone’s welcome to a meet-and-greet with May and other Guild artists. Admission is free, “nibbles and wine” included. Check out an interview with May at the Arts Guild website, artsguildofsonoma.org. The Guild is located at 140 E. Napa St. 996-3115. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Monday.
