Medical and mental health support available to Sonoma Valley students

Free resources for district families struggling with support and mental health|

Sonoma Valley Unified School District counselors, school psychologists and social workers are ready to answer questions and connect families to mental health and family support resources in the community during this time of distance learning. Families can email svusdcares@sonomaschools.org or call 234-7379.

District students in grades 6 through 12 (ages 12 or older only) can request an appointment with a SVUSD school-based therapist. Appointments will be conducted either via Google Hangout (video conferencing) or by phone.

These remote appointments are not intended to replace the student’s medical care or services provided by an outside mental health care provider, however. According to the district, these services are intended to support students in identifying and managing difficult feelings, and in developing effective coping strategies during challenging times.

For non-emergency medical questions and health support, SVUSD district nurses and health staff are available to answer questions and connect families of students of all ages to medical resources in the community.

Families can email svusdhealthy@sonomaschools.org or call 200-8127.

Contact information for both of these services can be found on the SVUSD Wellness Resources for Families and Staff page of the district website.

In addition, the Sonoma County Office of Education has a mental health team that has curated a range of resources to help children cope with trauma and deal with their stress in positive ways, as well as resources for how to identify and help a child in crisis.

Access these resources at scoe.org/traumahelp.

Anyone with a medical or psychiatric emergency should call 911 immediately.
