Shady/Glass fire impact: The entire Sonoma Valley Unified School District was closed on Monday. All classes, including online classes, were canceled. Information about the rest of the week was not available at press time. Lunch pick-ups were also affected.

School supplies: There is now a community school supply box at 18360 Sonoma Highway, at Sonoma Immigrant services. Anyone who needs supplies or would like to donate items is welcome to stop by.

Napa’s going back to school: The Napa County Office of Education and four Napa County school districts – Napa, St. Helena, Calistoga and Howell Mountain -- announced last week that their schools will open for a hybrid of in-person instruction and distance learning starting on Monday, Oct. 26. Waivers: Several Sonoma Valley schools have applied for waivers to resume in-person instruction. Presentation School expects to hear back from the state this week about its application.

Girl scouting: There are several Girl Scout open house events for families that want to learn more about Girl Scouting in the Valley. Visit gsnorcal.org/join to learn more.

College information: Sonoma Valley High School College Night for Seniors is Thursday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. Counselors will review four-year college applications, changes due to COVID and more. The virtual link will be provided to seniors when the date gets closer.

Grant: Santa Rosa Junior College has been awarded a five-year grant of just over $2.8 million from the U.S. Department of Education, designed “to engage and support Latinx students, who have been historically underserved in higher education, toward bold academic goals and limitless life ambitions.”
