Local climate summit streams Sunday

Sonoma County Climate Activists present 3-hour open Zoom session to drop in, network|

An afternoon series of online presentations from the Sonoma County Climate Activists, serving as the SoCoCAN community summit, will stream on Sunday, Jan. 10.

The group says it will “share important work on indigenous practices, connecting with the land, on reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, on educating the public about the dangers of forest-based biomass” and other goals of the local alliance of environmental activists.

Among the 14 guest presenters are Santa Rosa Junior College behavioral science professor Dr. Brenda Flyswithhawks, an indigenous activist and member of the Pepperwood Preserve Native American Council; two representatives from the Sunrise Movement, a youth-lead movement to stop climate change; Maya Kholsa, wildlife biologist and county poet laureate; Teri Shore, the local director of the Greenbelt Alliance; among several others.

Other topics include regenerative agriculture, the Green New Deal, climate racial and social justice, and regional climate policy.

A complete list of speakers and their fields of expertise is found at sonomacountycan.org., as well as links to Zoom registration for the SoCoCAN summit, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2 to 5 p.m.
