Libbey led Lady Dragon runners sweep SCL tri-meet

In their second straight Sonoma County League tri-meet, which took place Wednesday afternoon on the Foothill Course in Santa Rosa, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity cross-country girls ran to another pair of SCL wins, while the Dragon boys earned their first victory in split decisions.

With junior Madeline Libbey again leading the way, the Lady Dragon runners defeated Piner 22-35, while taking a win over an incomplete Elsie Allen team.

Winning her second consecutive SCL girls' race, Libbey cruised the 3.1-mile course in a time of 21 minutes, 55 seconds.

Sonoma was also led by sophomore Maddie Cashel's third-place finish in 23:39; freshman Eliza Neeley's fourth in 23:46; frosh Quinn Jensen's fifth in 23:46; sophomore Grace Cutting's ninth in 24:54; frosh Helena Goodman's 10th in 21:15; and sophomore Crystal Rodriguez's 11th in 26:07.

The SCL boys tri-meet saw defending champion Piner post a 20-41 victory over the Dragons, with both teams defeating Elsie Allen's score of 84, as Sonoma junior Travis Claeys, who came up just short of a first-place finish in the first league tri-meet, won the race in 18:30.

Sonoma's boy runners were also paced by junior Leo Macedonio's seventh place in 19:57; sophomore Angel Barcenas' 10th in 21:04; senior Ian Sloop's 11th in 21:37; sophomore Campbell Martin's 12th in 21:41; senior Return Bongiovani's 13th in 21:49; and junior Austin Chapman's 15th in 22:32.

The Dragon cross-country teams will compete in the Ukiah Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18, before traveling to Sebastopol for SCL dual-meet showdowns on the Ragle Ranch course with longtime league foe Analy on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
