Glen Ellen neighbors help nab parked-car thief

Two alert citizens spotted a man taking items from parked cars on the afternoon of March 8, in the 800 block of Marty Drive and gave chase.

The suspect eluded the pair by apparently hiding somewhere in the neighborhood. But his luck ran out after deputies arrived on scene and started searching a four-block area. The man, Bradley James Stavas, 26, of Glen Ellen, was spotted by deputies running across the front lawn at a residence and was promptly apprehended.

After witnesses identified Stavas, who was on searchable probation, deputies searched his residence and found items that other victims had reported as stolen. Deputies then made flyers with a list of items they found in the house and distributed them to neighborhood residents; several neighbors reclaimed their stolen property. Stavas was charged with felony possession of stolen property, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and a felony probation violation. He was booked into the county jail.

Thursday, March 6:

5:47 p.m. – Profoundly intoxicated. A 59-year-old woman was arrested on charges of public intoxication and a probation violation after a deputy spotted her profoundly under the influence of alcohol at the intersection of Boyes Boulevard and Greger Street.

Friday, March 7:

11:15 a.m. – And don’t let that door hit you on the way out. A 33-year-old Sonoma man was arrested on charges of domestic assault with injury after allowing his wife to be hit with a swinging door during a dispute.

5:48p.m. – You can run, but... Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Springs man after he ran when they saw him behind a business in the 18700 block of Arnold Drive. The runner was charged with a having an outstanding warrant and resisting arrest.

Wednesday, March 12:

11:45 a.m. – One arrest was not enough. A man already in custody and being transported to the Sonoma County jail from the Rio Cosumnes Correction Center in Elk Grove, reportedly attacked another inmate by kicking him in the face several times, causing moderate injuries. The incident, which happened on Highway 37, earned James Clayton McCurdy, 29, of Santa Rosa, a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm.
