Former interim city manager Sue Casey to retire from assistant manager position

After being terminated as interim city manager earlier this month, Sue Casey will leave city government all together.|

Mayor of Sonoma Sandra Lowe confirmed former interim city manager Sue Casey has announced her retirement from her role assistant city manager.

Casey is currently on paid-administrative leave through Jan. 1 following her dismissal as acting-city manager for the city of Sonoma earlier this month.

“We wish her all the best and thank her for her service,” Lowe said.

Casey rose to the interim position on Feb. 16 following the mutual departure of Garrett Toy as city manager. Prior to that, she worked as assistant city manager for the prior five years at a salary of $123,000, where she oversaw finance, human resources and risk management.

Casey could not be reached for comment at the time of publication. Her city email inbox did not accept new messages.

While Casey will retain her $215,000 interim city manager salary through the end of the month, but will revert to her assistant city manager salary of $123,000 in her pension, per her contract that was approved by council May 18.
