Dragon boy golfers upend defending champ Analy

It was more than just a second win to start the 2014 Sonoma County League season, it was an impressive victory over the defending SCL champion that firmly puts the Sonoma Valley High School boy golfers not only into, but near the top of the title conversation.

With junior Cyle Gusse leading the way as the medalist of the match, the Dragons posted a convincing 222-257 win over defending champion and longtime SCL rival Analy Tuesday afternoon at the Sonoma Golf Club course.

Gusse earned his medalist honor with a nine-hole round of 41, followed by senior Dario Minatta’s 43, junior Christian Ballard’s 44, and senior Dante Monterosso and junior Brett Sullivan’s 47 each.

The Dragon golfers, who beat El Molino in last week’s SCL opener at Northwood Golf Course next to the Russian River in Monte Rio, played at league foe Healdsburg yesterday – results not available at presstime – will be on spring break next week.
