Dixie Lee Dement

Dixie Lee Dement, 71, passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2014, surrounded by family in Santa Rosa after a short battle with cancer.

Dixie was born in San Francisco to David and Pauline Kettlewell and was a 45-year resident of Sonoma Valley. She was a dedicated worker her entire life at The El Pueblo Hotel, the London Lodge, as an Avon Make-up Representative and a home health-care provider for more than 24 years. It was in this last field that she thrived taking excellent care of all her clients. She was an active member of the In-House Supportive Services Union.

She is survived by her daughters, Alein Rubeck, and Ardell and Aldona Dement; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Linda (Ronnie) Kirchoff. She is also survived and remembered by her extended Dement families in both Sonoma and Lake counties and her close friends, Sheila Manica and Tracy Tyler, and by all the people to whom she worked with and dedicated her life to. Everyone who knew and came in contact with her loved her and will miss her dearly. Her spirit of giving to those in need and less fortunate will continue to live on through her family and friends as she constantly gave financial contributions to more than 20 charities a month.

The family invites friends to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Sonoma Valley Moose Lodge, #2048, 20580 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476.

Coinciding with her giving spirit and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. At Dixie’s request, the family will be holding a silent auction of her most valued collective items, NASCAR memorabilia, Native American Heritage, Elvis Pressley commemorative items, and pieces from the Danbury Mint. Parents are encouraged to have their children bring their pennies for a fun and special live “Penny Auction.” Dixie’s wishes for cremation by Duggan’s Mission Chapel and disposition in Lake County will be fulfilled by the family.
