Clean power customers may qualify for $1k toward purchase of eBike

Bike Electric program also provides free helmets and training; eligible bikes are California Class 1 or Class 2 and cost a maximum of $3,500.|

Sonoma Clean Power announced an incentive program that offers a rebate to low-income customers who purchase an electric bike from a qualified dealer.

Through its Bike Electric program, qualified customers of Sonoma Clean Power can receive a $1,000 voucher toward the purchase of an eBike.

The clean-energy company hopes to incentivize people to adopt a cleaner mode of transportation through the purchase of electric bikes.

Electric bikes assist riders with power provided by a motor and a battery. Bike riding is faster than walking and the power-assist allows riders to travel longer distances with zero emissions and do not require gasoline.

Any Sonoma Clean Power customer on reduced CARE/FERA rates is eligible to participate in the program. Participating in other income-qualified programs such as SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid/MediCal, Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), Women Infants and Children (WIC), Head Start, are also eligible. To inquire whether a program is part the approved list, email programs@sonomacleanpower.org or call (855) 202-2139.

The application requires uploading a PG&E account number and any documentation from an income-qualified program. Once the application has been approved, a voucher will be sent by mail that can be taken to any participating retailer to get $1,000 off the price of an eligible eBike.

All eligible bikes are California Class 1 or Class 2 and cost a maximum of $3,500. Mountain bikes and road bikes do not qualify. Due to current conditions, not all eligible eBikes are available at all participating retailers and customers may need to place an order. Vouchers are valid from March 8 to Sept. 8, 2021, or until program funds are depleted, whichever comes first.

Customers who qualify for the program can also receive a free helmet. Sonoma Clean Power is also partnering with the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition to provide free in-person training on eBike safety and best practices.

More details and a list of participating retailers can be found at sonomacleanpower.org/programs/bike-electric.
