CHP investigating El Verano hit-and-run

Pedestrian with ‘major injuries’ sent to hospital as driver flees; gang connection possible|

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run injury accident that took place in El Verano on Thursday evening, Dec. 10, shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Units from the CHP’s Napa officer were dispatched to the scene of a collision on Riverside Drive at Craig Avenue, where a female pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene and continued on Riverside headed northwest toward Comstock.

The victim was identified as Raquel Magana-Arellano, 21, of Petaluma. She was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with what were described as major injuries.

Magana was sentenced last September on felony charges stemming from a May, 2019 gang-related knife attack on a minor in Agua Caliente. She served about five months of a one-year term and was out on probation.

“The traffic collision is currently under investigation,” said Lt. Marc Renspurger of the Napa CHP. “We are looking for leads on the vehicle and driver for this one.”

Residents have told the Index-Tribune they are being asked for Ring or other home surveillance footage from the time of the incident to identify the vehicle.

If anyone has any information regarding the collision, call the Napa CHP at 707-253-4906.
