Bike mechanic certification for Sonoma teens

With a wheely good reward!|

Teen Services Sonoma has combined two of its most popular bike classes into one hands-on, earn-a-bike program – Bike Mechanics.

Teens begin by selecting a donated bike. They spend the day learning about the parts of the bikes and the tools needed to repair it. They practice on these bikes and, at the end of the day, the bike is theirs to keep.

Students are then encouraged to drop by during open shop hours to complete any future repairs needed.

The class, run by Operation Bicycle director Adrian Palenchar, is offered on the first Sunday of every month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Operation Bicycle at 17440 Highway 12.

Operation Bicycle also sells used bikes to support the program. Stop by and take a look at their inventory from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
