2019 Sonoma Valley Fund Star Award event set for Oct. 6
For the past decade, the Sonoma Valley Fund has invited local nonprofits to nominate a volunteer who has, over the course of the year, gone above and beyond, as part of its Star Volunteer Awards. On Oct. 6, the Fund will honor almost three dozen of Sonoma Valley’s most active and valuable community volunteers at a party in their honor. For the first time, the event will be held at Hanna Boys Center.
“We’re excited to honor so many volunteers who enhance and strengthen the fabric of our community,” said Sonoma Valley Fund board president Simon Blattner in an announcement of the event.
“This event is a chance for our nonprofit partners to recognize a volunteer who has made a significant contribution to their organization over the past year,” added Fund board member Penney Magrane.
Each Star Volunteer will be presented with a trophy and certificates from 1st District Supervisor Susan Gorin congratulating and thanking them for their service.
A regional affiliate of the Community Foundation Sonoma County, the Sonoma Valley Fund seeks to increase and improve philanthropic efforts in the Valley. Sonoma Valley Fund is led by a group of local community leaders to help sustain and improve the Valley’s socioeconomic, environmental and cultural qualities, according to the nonprofit. Earlier this year, the nonprofit announced a grant to support the Sonoma Land Trust’s acquisition of open space land at the Sonoma Developmental Center. This fall SVF will launch a second “capacity building” grants program, with applications for nonprofits opening on Sept. 25.
The 2019 “Star Volunteers” will be honored from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Hanna Boys Center. The public is invited to hear their stories.
Supervisor Susan Gorin will be in attendance, and more than 300 guests are expected to attend.
