A local instructor is bringing taekwondo back to Sonoma.

The new Valley of the Moon Taekwondo is being taught by Carmen Arriaga, who taught under Patrick Hoffman at Sonoma Taekwando for many years.

Valley of the Moon Taekwondo is offering classes three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at a studio on the east side of Sonoma. The cost is $80 a month. If there is demand, there is also he opportunity to add more classes, said Arriaga.

In addition to practicing taekwando, the students are invited to participate in international (online) tournaments. After entering just weeks ago, several students are already in the finals.

Students will be socially distanced with masks and the participants in the small classes are six feet apart, according to Arriaga.

Children aged 6 and up are welcome.

For more information, call Arriaga at 235-2089.

Barbie and Patrick Hoffman closed Sonoma Taekwondo in the Vineyard Center on Highway 12 in May 2020 after more than 30 years in business. Over the years, their training center taught more than 20,000 students and graduated 200 black belts.
