New menu at Garden Court Cafe

Longtime Glen Ellen staple has a wide range of breakfast and lunch items, including perhaps the best country potatoes in town.|

The new version of the Garden Court Café has the old high quality for sure, along with a shorter menu and a higher decibel level. But it is delicious.

Many of us try new or newly reopened restaurants when they first launched, which is never a good idea. I always give them a chance to get the kinks out and help the staff learn the menu and ingredients. That has always worked at the Garden Court in Glen Ellen.

If you are looking for a big traditional breakfast with two eggs, choice of meat, country potatoes or grits, toast, and two big silver dollar pancakes, the Lobito is it. Or try the veggie omelet, Italian or Santa Fe alternatives, or a burrito with scrambled eggs, cheddar, turkey chorizo and avocado, plus potatoes. And these are the best “country potatoes” in the Valley, at least to my taste. ($16 to $20.)

Everything else is there including bagels with lox and the works, avocado toast, oatmeal, pancakes with blueberries or bananas and real maple syrup or three thick slices of French toast.

And many eggs Benedict are priced according to how many eggs you want. ($14 to $20)

Lunch brings soup, a Caesar, or cranberry chicken salad with blue cheese and candied nuts, grilled chicken sandwich, a roasted turkey with Jack cheese, grilled onions and roasted red peppers, a Reuben containing all house-made corned beef and sauerkraut, a BLAT, and a burger. ($12 to $17) Lots of coffee and tea, hot or cold chocolate, Mexican sodas and wines. The hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but closed on Tuesday. Find it at 13647 Arnold Dr., Glen Ellen. Call 935-1565 for more information.
