July 4 car cruise a roaring success

The Devils Darlin’s Car Club Cruise drew more than 200 classic and vintage cars to Sonoma Valley on July 4. The cruise began downtown and ran west on Spain Street and north on Highway 12 to Glen Ellen and back again.

“We brought as much joy to the community as they brought to us,” said the club’s event coordinator, Susan Ingerson.

Devils Darlin’s hosts an annual car show to raise money for various charities, but COVID-19 has put a damper on that. The club’s 33rd annual car show was held at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building last year, with 220 cars in attendance but the 2020 event is canceled.

The Devils Darlin's have been around since 1948. It was created by high school kids. In 1962, the group became a nonprofit.

“We want to help our community in any way possible,” said Ingerson, about the group’s food, toy and backpack drives. They also host a car show with one of the retirement homes in Sonoma. “The Devils Darlin's are here in Sonoma to support our community.”
