Fig Café & Wine Bar to reopen in Glen Ellen

It will also bring back its popular Thanksgiving tradition.|

The Girl & the Fig proprietors announced on Thursday that they will reopen the Fig Café & Wine Bar in Glen Ellen on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

The Arnold Drive hideaway was the first location of the Girl & the Fig before Sondra Bernstein moved it downtown to the Sonoma Hotel property on the northwest corner of Sonoma Plaza. She then experimented with the Girl & the Gaucho at that location, before morphing it into the Fig Café & Wine Bar. It was an instant sensation with local winemakers and staff since they initiated a “no corkage fee” policy on opening.

The Fig Café & Wine Bar closed “indefinitely” on June 6, after more than a year of selling to-go food and basic grocery items from eggs and flour to toilet paper during the pandemic lockdowns.

Facing a limited number of employees, company president John Toulze made the decision to consolidate staff at the Girl & the Fig for a while. But he’s is happy to again have good staff to reopen the Glen Ellen restaurant.

“We are looking forward to seeing and catching up with all of our Fig Café friends again soon,” Toulze said.

The reconfigured restaurant will also host its annual Thanksgiving dinner to feature choices of starters of arugula salad, crispy Brussels sprouts Caesar salad, or pumpkin soup. Entrées will offer roast turkey breast with confit bread pudding, haricots verts, cranberry relish and gravy; café pot roast with whipped yams, braised greens and fresh horseradish; their classic pan-seared flounder with potato purée, and sautéed spinach; or roasted cauliflower with crispy risotto and sage pesto.

Desserts will include profiteroles cream puffs filled with spiced pumpkin ice cream with bittersweet chocolate sauce and candied pumpkin seeds, or an almond-pear tart with salted caramel and vanilla chantilly cream. The cost is $60 adults, $45 children 10 and under. With a wine pairing, add $15.

To reserve a space for Thanksgiving only, call 933-3000, ext. 13. The Fig Café will continue its no-reservations policy other than on the holiday.

The restaurant is located at 13690 Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen.
