Sonoma’s El Gallo Pinto restaurant closes

Pandemic was the final nail, say sibling owners|

Yesica Garcia and her brother Christian Garcia formally closed their Sonoma restaurant, El Gallo Pinto, on Thursday, Aug. 6, the first Sonoma restaurant casualty of COVID-19.

On a sign posted by the Garcia siblings on the door of the Highway 12 restaurant, they explained in both English and Spanish that, ”Unfortunately due to past events: power outages, fires, construction and now COVID-19 it’s nearly impossible to be able to operate in hopes to get back to the old normal.”

They thanked all of their regulars and staff for their friendships and support, as trucks loaded up tables and chairs.

“As we continue to navigate through the challenges posed by COVID-19 we regret to inform you that El Gallo Pinto is now permanently closed. With love and gratitude, Yesica and Christian and all staff at El Gallo Pinto.”

The pair took over the former Mi Ranchito location at 19315 Highway 12 in September of 2019. The brother and sister hosted a popular sports bar scene with a large menu.

Restaurants have struggled to succeed at that location since the original Sonoma Grove, a good bar with great steaks, left the scene.
