Celebrations: Evelyn Montaldo turns 99

Evelyn Montaldo, a lifelong Sonoma resident, celebrated her 99th birthday on June 16.

Unable to have a large gathering due to the COVID pandemic, she was surprised with a drive-by honk-and-wave parade, followed by three smaller socially-distanced family celebrations hosted by her daughters throughout her birthday week.

Montaldo was surprised to see her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Alan Cantrell of Arizona, honking and waving in the procession of cars.

A backyard luncheon followed the parade at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mark Sullivan, in Sonoma. A later celebration included another daughter from Windsor, grandsons and friends Stacey Stovall and Roma Powell of Sonoma. The final celebration was hosted by her Napa daughter, with grandsons in person and via Facetime.

Montaldo attended Sonoma Grammar School and Sonoma Valley High.

Happy birthday Evelyn!
