B&GCSV Sweetheart gala 2018 was a big success
More than 320 community supporters of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley turned out on Saturday night to raise a paddle for the club, to welcome new CEO Cary Dacy and to honor the 2018 club “Sweethearts,” Marchelle Carleton and Larry Krieger, for the two boardmembers’ longtime work on behalf of Valley youth.
According to early estimates from club officials, the event raised more than $630,000. According to Dacy, both the live auction and silent auction proceeds were up from 2017. A “leadership” gift from Mike and Mary Schuh of $50,000 and a $25,000 match from Marcia and Gary Nelson boosted the night’s proceeds.
The night began with a lively and crowded silent auction and cocktail hour, guests were treated to a performance by Transcendence Theatre Company and the night ended with “gambling,” dessert and dancing.
“We were thrilled with the results considering the fires and our concerns with that financial impact, limited time to plan (due to fires) and the changes in leadership,” said Dacy. “But the room was filled with energy and enthusiasm and true support for all our programs.”
