Due to restrictions placed on public gatherings, Transcendence Theater Company is canceling its 2020 season of live productions at Jack London State Historic Park - and instead offering online video of highlights from past seasons.

“Due to COVID-19, we could have canceled our entire season completely, but we knew the ‘best night ever’ must go on,” said Amy Miller, the company’s artistic director.

In lieu of live programming, the company will present “The Best Night Ever Goes Online” - a virtual compilation of four distinct shows with “never before seen footage featuring hundreds of artists, all from the comfort of your own home,” according to a press release from the company. The virtual programming will be free. “Don’t Stop Believing’” will be shown July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19; “Fantastical Family Night” is July 24, 25 and 26; “I Hope You Dance” is Aug. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23”; and “The Gala Celebration” will be shown Sept. 11, 12 and 13.

In addition to four scheduled shows, virtual pre-show entertainment is also planned. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays, and at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, the pre-show offerings will include “wine chats” with the company’s performing artists, food and wine delivery and pick-up options from local sponsors, special tributes to COVID-19 victims and first responders, activities and classes for children, and videos about Transcendence’s work in the community.
