Sonoma Community Center to offer Standup Comedy Night

Sonoma Community Center will offer a Standup Comedy Night featuring Joe Klocek, Clara Biji and host Codi Smit on Nov. 17.|

Sonoma Community Center will do its part to bring a little levity to these early darkening days. Few people find humor in needing to turn on the lights at 4:30 p.m., so the center is bringing us “Valley Laughs/Standup Comedy Night” on Friday, Nov. 17.

Codi Smit, the host of the event, is a familiar name to North Bay comedy fans, as he produces many of the best shows. The Santa Rosa native is young but jaded beyond all reason. He is a failed rapper, no doubt contributing to his acerbic wit.

On the bill is Clara Biji, who is purported to be internationally known. She grew up in the French Alps and carries that region’s comic tradition proudly. Biji has also lived in South Carolina and New York City, places she refers to in her set as “Claradise.”

The headliner for the night is Joe Klocek, a resident of San Francisco for the last 20 years. A self-confessed smug but polite Midwesterner, Klocek likes to think he is a master at talking to a crowd.

He does just that twice a month at Cobb’s Comedy Club in San Francisco. Klocek also is a regular at Punch Line San Francisco. Klocek has played on shows on NPR and NBC.

He doubles as a job coach at St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco, not even close to a funny place to spend your time.

Tickets to this laugh-filled night, to be held in Andrews Hall, are available at the center’s website, sonomacommunitycenter.org.
