Sonoma comedy nights continue at Starling Bar

The next night of hilarity at Starling Bar will take place on Tuesday, March 7. Co-owner Fred Johnson has been bringing in regional comics for a short while, and it seems to be paying off: His last night of laughs was a sellout.

The March 7 show, the fifth in this series and offered on a usually very quiet weeknight, will be headlined by Paul Conyers. He has made a bit of a name for himself recently with a popular special viewable on Amazon Prime. He is a busy guy, spending time in clubs both on land and at sea. Conyers was awarded the top prize in the 2020 World Series of Comedy.

Also on the bill are Ashley Monique, James Mwaura and Sergio Blanco. Monique is a native of Texas, and you know there is funny stuff to be mined there. Now living in Oakland, her set is “autobiographical and anecdotal,” she said in a phone call. Monique discusses her experiences growing up in a very conservative area, her dating life and sometimes her sex life.

Monique is relatively new to stand-up comedy but has dived in headfirst. Now performing three to five nights a week, she has immersed herself in the craft.

Mwaura is based in Oakland. His press information indicates that he “ … is Black, but is Puerto Rican-passing. Mwaura likes to talk about racial issues, sex, COVID … all the important topics. If you don't like this comic, you are entitled to a full refund, which James will pay out himself in rare cryptocurrencies.”

The show will be hosted by Patrick Fishman, a Canadian funny guy now living in the Bay Area. He will tell some jokes and a few funny tales, and then cue the cut-ups.

The doors at Starling will open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com, and will set you back $12, plus possible fees.
