Pianist Chuchito Valdes performs Saturday at Vintage House
Prepare your musical palate for a taste of the Caribbean on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Vintage House has teamed up with the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society to bring Cuban pianist Chuchito Valdés to the Valley.
'The power of jazz will fill the air in our new program called 'Jazz at the House,'' said Vintage House executive director Priscilla Essert in a press release.
'This is the second time we have teamed up with Vintage House for a concert like this,' said Janice King, president of the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. The two organizations combined forces last spring to present a jazz show, and over 200 filed into Stone Hall, the main assembly room at the Vintage House.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. Valdés show. There will be a no-host, cash-only wine and beer bar.
After settling in for the event, music lovers will get an intimate look at the piano mastery of Valdes. He is a third-generation master of the Cuban style of piano. Listeners will recognize and appreciate his intricate yet playful style. Classically-trained, with heavy dose of family influence, Valdes draws on his love of Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz, danzon, cha-cha-cha, bebop and much more.
Following in the footsteps of his famed father Chucho Valdés and grandfather Bebo Valdés, he continues the legacy of great piano players from Cuba.
Valdés has recorded and performed piano with the world-renowned Cuban band Irakere, which he led for two years. He has also performed at festivals, clubs and concerts throughout the world.
Stone Hall at the Vintage House is a perfect space for such an event. Available to rent for parties, weddings and the like, on this night the hall transforms into a jazz club. The Valdés show will be the second in the series, as the Jazz Society and Vintage House look to bring many more events such as this in the future.
