Chris Robinson to rock Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds

Local bands fill out the schedule at up-and-coming schools fundraiser|

With little pomp and circumstance, over the last seven years the Petaluma Music Festival has become an event to grab your attention – as it presents music to help raise money to keep music in local Petaluma schools. Not quite to the level yet of Bruce Cohn’s Sonoma Music Festival, which in it’s 29-year run raised close to $7 million for Veterans charities and local nonprofit organizations, the Petaluma festival has so far put over $200,000 into school districts coffers, and this year the festival boasts the best line-up yet, with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood headlining the show, which kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 5.

This year the festival boasts 14 acts on four stages and has regional bands Moonalice, Stu Allen and the Pulsators as well as local acts Poor Man’s Whiskey, the Grateful Bluegrass Boys, the Bootleg Honeys and more. Music on the various stages will happen from noon until 8 p.m. with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood wrapping the evening for a set from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on the main stage.

The festival takes place at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and has various admission options, with a VIP area that includes complimentary hors d’ouevres, wine and beer. Oh, and shade. The event is family friendly with a children’s area, children under age 12 are admitted free to the festival. In addition to all the music, there will be many local food vendor options, free water, an artist meet-and-greet area and a silent and live auction, with celebrity autographed guitars in the auction (sound familiar?).

All proceeds benefit the music education programs of all Petaluma area public schools.
