Strictly Business: Changes at Sebastiani Theatre, reopening news and more

Who’s reopening, who’s not ready yet and who is hiring in this week’s business news.|

Construction at Sebastiani: The Sebastiani Theatre Foundation is in the process of having necessary ADA 'barrier removal actions' taken, which will include automatic doors, wall handrails and improved handicap seating. The work is being done by Seth Maze's GMH Builders. Work permits were issued just before the coronavirus crises began and foundation ED Roger Rhoten said he's pleased that the improvements will make the theater much more accessible for members of the community with disabilities.

MacArthur Place news: The hotel at 29 E. MacArthur St. hopes to open in the very near future, as soon as government-mandated closures lift. The Porch coffee shop and grab-and-go marketplace has reopened with porch seating for customers. Layla has also re-opened with a limited all-day menu outdoors on the patio. The bar remains closed but its full cocktail menu is available on the Layla patio.

Who's hiring?: There is a new Sonoma job board online at sonomavalleylocal.com/jobs.

Open/closed: While most local restaurants that have the option for outdoor dining have reopened or are in the process, the county announced on May 26 that hair salons, barbers, in-store retail and churches will need to wait a little longer (despite the OK from the state). Hair salons in Napa are open. Lawyers like Eric Gullotta are allowed to see clients but just to be safe, Gullotta has created an outdoor office on West Napa Street.

Testing at Napa CVS: CVS Health will open additional COVID-19 test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations on Friday, May 29 including one at 291 South Coombs St. in Napa.

Fathers Day: Hanson of Sonoma Distillery on Fremont Drive has two Father's Day gifts for whiskey lovers available for pick-up in Sonoma. There is a DIY Old Fashioned Cocktail Kit for $135 and a Whiskey-on-the Rocks Gift Box for $175.

Free food: Rotary Club Sonoma Sunrise and Rotary Club Sonoma Valley will give away 500 hamburgers on Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at Three Fat Guys Tasting Room on Broadway.

Shop online: There is a local alternative to Amazon for some of your online ordering needs. More than 100 county businesses can be found at golocal.coop/online.

Car sales: Sonoma's two car dealers, Silvieria Chevrolet on West Napa Street and Kovacs Motors on Sonoma Highway, are again open for business.

Sonoma Valley Safe: Learn more about the local program designed to help customers feel confident interacting with local businesses as they reopen at sonomavalleysafe.com.

Carneros animal rescue center: Napa Wildlife Rescue was faced with going out of business after 29 years but an anonymous donor has stepped forward to cover the purchase of a $950,000, 2.1-acre property with a house, barn and kennel near Cuttings Wharf. Still needed is a use permit from the county planning commission. The property is at 4001 Middle Ave. Napa Wildlife Rescue cares for about 1,200 injured and orphaned wild animals annually. napawildliferescue.org

Outdoor gardens: Spaces like Quarryhill are allowed to be open now and Glen Ellen's botanical garden is open for members only from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Retiring: The Charles M. Schulz Museum director Karen Johnson is set to retire in July after 15 years. Gina Huntsinger, who is currently the general manager of Snoopy's Home Ice, will succeed her.

Survey: Local business owners, executives and nonprofit organizations are being asked by the Sonoma County Economic Development Board (EDB) to fill out a quick survey about the economic impacts of the pandemic. The data collected will help determine impacts, assess resources needed and creating policy for future events. Visit surveymonkey.com/r/HVVVGFF.
