Candlestick stays open, Artefact reopens, and more

Business news from in and around Sonoma Valley.|

Candle stays lit: Dan Gallison, owner of the Candlestick store on the Plaza, had announced this fall that he was selling his business and would remain closed until that time, but he told the Index-Tribune this week that he has decided to try to remain open. Gallison, 72, believes Candlestick is California’s oldest and largest specialty candle store. He thanked the loyal customers who shopped his recent sale and his landlords for making it possible for him to stay in business. The Candlestick has been based at 38. W. Spain St. for 22 years. The store is open Thursday through Sunday.

Artefact reopens: Artefact Design and Salvage owner David Allen has “popped up” in a new location at 27 Fremont Drive. The new spot is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. There is no sign, just a large graphic screw. artefactdesignsalvage.com.

Tasting room closing: Paradise Ridge tasting room in Kenwood is closing at the end of the year. Co-owner Rene Byck told the Index-Tribune that the winery’s Santa Rosa location, which burned in the Tubbs fire, is doing well and people seem more interested in going there than the Kenwood location. “This place has served its purpose,” he said. In part, he said that the multiple fires and PSPS’s over the last three years and the pandemic have taken a toll and that business at the Kenwood spot has been very slow.

Warehouse sale: Sonoma Botanicals is having its annual fall open house and warehouse sale from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 15. The local company offers handmade bath and body products, including lotions, soaps, candles, CBD creams and more. The warehouse is located at 19692 Eighth St. E. Curbside pickup is also available.

Price drop: The prices set for the new Mockingbird Lane houses being finished now at 843 Fourth St. W. were recently reduced. There are 18 lots off West MacArthur Street, on the piece of land that was previously owned by Sonoma Valley Hospital and sold to Concord-based developer DeNova Homes for $3.3 million in 2019. The single-family houses range from 1,800 to 2,500 square feet, with a garage and accessory dwelling unit. Prices start just north of $1.2 million.

Movie news: Cinemas in Solano, Mendocino, Lake, Napa and Marin counties can now reopen at quarter- to half-capacity under California’s coronavirus framework, while Sonoma County movie houses await permission. Sonoma’s Sebastiani Theatre is ready to reopen, but Sonoma Cinemas on Highway 12 has closed permanently unless another operator is found.
