The new Baker & Cook cafe, getting set to open in the old Rocket Sushi space on Sonoma Highway, is now sporting a colorful new bright orange sign. The bakery is owned by Jen and Nick Demarest of Harvest Moon Cafe.

Jen Demarest said that she and her husband have been working on the space for almost 18 months, taking it down to the studs and completely redesigning the look and feel.

“We’re getting close and hoping to open in mid-summer,” she said.

The café will be casual with counter service and both inside and patio seating. Demarest expects it to be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sundays, with brunch offered on the weekends. The Demarests will offer baked goods, salads, sandwiches, soups, beer and wine, with ingredients that will change with the seasons. Down the road, they might even open for dinner.

Demarest is a familiar face to many as she sells her baked goods at the Friday farmers market in Sonoma.

“We’ve wanted to open a place like Baker & Cook for years,” she said. “We love this space because it is easy in and out, with plenty of parking.” The cafe is at 18812 Highway 12.
