Pools to reopen: After more than a year and a half of being closed, Morton's Warm Springs will open to the public on May 2. Green honors: In celebration of Earth Day 2021, the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and City of Sonoma are working together to recognize a local business for its green practices. Businesses that operate in the City of Sonoma are welcome to nominate themselves (or another business) for consideration before noon on April 19. A small committee of environmental and civic leaders will review the candidates and select a business for this year’s recognition. The honoree will be announced publicly on Earth Day, April 22. TrainTown news: TrainTown is currently hiring in advance of its recently announced planned reopening on June 15. The 10-acre tourist railroad amusement park has been closed since March 2020. 20264 Broadway.

Nature of the Valley: The Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau has created “A Field Guide to Sonoma Valley” to help visitors and residents identify native plants, bird species and more to make hiking and exploring more interactive, educational and fun. The guide can be viewed online or picked up at either Sonoma Valley Visitors Center ‒ on the Plaza or at Viansa Winery, beginning on Earth Day, April 22.

Visitors Center move: The Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau southern location has relocated from Cornerstone to Viansa Winery. According to Visitors Bureau director Tim Zahner, that was the original south office location. “Our return to this location brings us closer to the turn-off for visitors coming from San Francisco and Sacramento so we can best assist them and direct them to Sonoma Valley’s wineries, restaurants, parks and other wonders,” Zahner told the Index-Tribune.

Art show: MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa has unveiled an artist-in-residence partnership with Tappan Collective. The program welcomes artists from around the country to live at the hotel and to create and expand upon the hotel’s collection of hand-selected works of art. The hotel is also offering guests the opportunity to learn a new skill during their stay, including collage making, floral design and winemaking, while art programs will rotate throughout the year. New budget airline: Avelo, a new Burbank-based budget airline, will soon be flying in and out of Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa. It will start out this month by serving 12 airports in western states. aveloair.com.

Bowling: Our nearest bowling alley, Napa Bowl, has reopened. It is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to midnight (closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays). 494 Soscol Ave.

Honor: California Home and Design magazine has announced the winners of its 2021 Design Awards, and Sonoma architect Amy A. Alper won Best Wine Country Residence for the Calistoga Estate. alperarchitect.com.

New hire: Tom Gendall has been named director of winemaking and viticulture at Cline Family Wine Cellars in Sonoma. He replaces Charlie Tsegeletos, who retired after 19 years as head winemaker. Tsegeletos joined Cline Family Cellars in 2002.

New hire: Sonoma Fit has hired a new director of personal training, Andrew Wooters. According to gym owner Adam Kovacs, Wooters has 22 certifications and will also bring something new to all SoFit clubs: SoFit Boxing.

Reopening news: The Peet’s coffee patio at 591 Broadway downtown has reopened. Sonoma Originals on Sonoma Highway has also reopened after more than a year of being closed. 17400 Sonoma Highway.
