Expansion and reopening: Owner/director Sue Aslin has remodeled and expanded her recently reopened Studio M at 721 W. Napa St. in the former Painted Petals salon space. The new group class space has five Pilates Reformer machines and five Gyrotonic Tower machines as well as three treatments rooms for orthopedic massage, osteopathy, integrated manual therapy and holistic pelvic care. Closing: Actress and director Libby Oberlin has announced that she is closing the Theater School for the foreseeable future. “It has been one of the most difficult choices I’ve had to make,” said Oberlin, noting that she has been teaching and directing theater for the past 14 years and running the Theater School for the past seven years. Purchase: Ken and Stacy Mattson of Sonoma’s Best Hospitality Group have purchased an Inn to Remember on West Spain St. for $2.4 million.

Dispensary news: The new cannabis dispensary SPARC that will be located at 19315 Sonoma Highway had their latest plans for its signage and landscaping reviewed by the city’s Sonoma Design Review Commission as it prepares to open for business.

New restaurant news: Sonoma’s Design and Review Commission took a look at the sign permit application for the new restaurant, micro-brewery and a two-bedroom apartment at 899 Broadway (Jack's Filling Station). Phase one includes the operation of Little Lou’s Food Truck that would serve coffee and a limited menu. Phase two is a restaurant (Broadway Hardware), a micro-brewery and a two bedroom apartment in a new 4,775-square-foot building. The restaurant would have 72 seats, 12 inside and 6 outside. New lease: Sonoma Arts Live Executive Artistic Director Jaime Love has signed a new five-year lease at Sonoma Communtiy Center, which started on Aug. 16. sonomartslive.org.

New sign: Rite Aid gained the city’s approval for new signage at its Maxwell Village Shopping Center location at 19205 Sonoma Highway.

Finally open: The little mobile coffee cart (formerly Coffee & Coco) at Sonoma76 at 195 W. Napa St. has reopened as Cup of Love. The stand is open daily from 6 a.m. to noon, except on Sundays. Its grand opening starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21.

New business: Olga Komar has recently opened a new law office in downtown Sonoma at 620 Broadway specializing in estate planning, probate and trust administration. Originally from Ukraine, Komar attended Empire College School of Law in the U.S. and volunteered at the domestic violence department of Legal Aid of Sonoma County. SVHS staffer lands new job: The Novato Unified School District announced the hiring of Shawna Hettrich as assistant principal at San Marin High School. Hettrich, who grew up in Novato and previously taught at San Jose Middle School, returns to NUSD after a three-year stint at Sonoma Valley High School.

New principal: Nate Myers has been appointed new superintendent of the Kenwood School District and principal of Kenwood School, effective July 1. Myers was previously superintendent/principal of the Monte Rio school district. He succeeds Bob Bales, who served in Kenwood as superintendent/principal for 23 years. Myers is a resident of Santa Rosa and he holds an administrative credential and a master’s degree in education from Sonoma State.

For sale: A four-unit apartment building on .34 acres at 421-431 Walnut Ave. in Sonoma is for sale for $1,350,000. There are two single-level duplex buildings that were built in approximately 1968, with four two-bedroom, one-bath units estimated at around 896 square feet each. Thirsty: Many Sonoma Valley businesses have decided to only serve water on request as a result of the current drought, according to the Sonoma Chamber of Commerce.
